Leukemia and Lymphoma Diagnostics (LLD) Research Group
The LLD group focusses on state-of-the-art diagnostics, diagnostic innovations, and translational research in hematological malignancies, with emphasis on acute myeloid leukemia and B-cell malignancies.
Our goals
- Improving diagnostics in patients with hematological malignancies by developing and implementing novel technologies, with emphasis on flowcytometric immunophenotyping and molecular technologies (particularly immunoglobulin and T-cell receptor gene rearrangements).
- Develop and evaluate sensitive methods to detect Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) and to evaluate which patients may benefit from intensification or reduction of therapy.
- Immune-monitoring of patients with hematological malignancies treated with novel immune-therapies (including antibodies and CAR-T cells) to identify parameters that may predict the efficiency such therapies.
Our projects
Some of our current projects include:
- MRD4ALL (KIKA): together with the Princess Maxima Center (Utrecht) we evaluate whether genetic abnormalities, identified by Targeted-locus amplification, RNA-seq, or whole-genome sequencing, can be used for MRD analysis in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
- Immune-monitoring and MRD analysis in acute leukemia patients treated with the CD22 antibody-drug conjugate Inotuzumab (within international trial; with Princess Maxima Center).
Mechanism of action of Inotuzumab (CD22-calicheamicin antibody-drug conjugate used for the treatment of acute leukemia).
- Immune-monitoring and MRD analysis in acute leukemia patients treated with the CD19xC3 bi-specific antibody blinatumomab (within international trial; with Department of Hematology, University of Brussels, University of Ghent).
- EuroFlow (multiple European university medical centers): within this network we aim to develop novel tools for flowcytometric immunophenotypic analysis of hematological malignancies, including novel antibody panels for diagnosis and classification as well as software tools for database-supported analysis of flowcytometric data. Within EuroFlow, the LLD group particularly focusses on acute leukemia (BCP-ALL, AML).
Automated database-supported classification of acute leukemia.
