Iris Bodewes, received in September 2020 an award from the NVSP, the Dutch organization for Sjögren’s patients, for her study on fatigue in Sjögren’s syndrome. Fatigue in patients with Sjögren’s syndrome is a common problem, that so far has been poorly studied. Using the SOMAscan technology, that can measure over 1300 different proteins in a sample, Iris found an upregulation of 16 serum proteins that distinguished fatigued from non-fatigued fatigue in Sjögren’s syndrome patients. This so-called fatigue signature indicates a biological basis for fatigue in Sjögren’s syndrome.
